Point to Point Career Counseling
In addition to meeting with a number of top employers in the region, PhillyMagnet will be providing career seminars hosted by The Workforce Investment Boards of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Seminar topics will include the following.
The College-Career Connection
There is a need for more college educated workers. Labor market analysts predict that over 70% of all new jobs will require a college degree. Working adults who don’t yet have a degree certainly understand the importance of a college credential for their professional development, but they ask: What degree should I pursue? Which is the best college? How do I pay for it? Many also harbor two additional issues: fear of the unknown and inadequate academic preparedness. This session will introduce a framework for answering these questions in a way that optimizes opportunities and addresses barriers upfront.
Hot Jobs
Despite the challenging economic times, there are companies from key industries in the Delaware Valley Region that are still in need of skilled workers. This session will include representatives from those companies who will share the skills, competencies, and credentials necessary to secure employment with their organization. Presented by Southeastern PA Workforce Investment Board.
Secrets to Landing A Job In Tough Economic Times
Securing a job that matches your skills and interest has always required a committed effort. However, in these tough economic times, that effort has increased. This session will include the things you can do to help set you apart from the pack. Tips for searching for the right job, developing an eye-catching resume, and giving a dynamic interview will all be discussed during this session. Presented by Southeastern PA Workforce Investment Board.
The Green Jobs Sector
There has been a great deal of buzz about “green jobs;” buzz at the local, state and national levels. What is a green job? What is the green economy? This session will provide information about the green jobs sectors, the types of jobs it comprises, the industries that are included, and the skills and credentials needed to participate in the emerging Green Economy. Presented by Southeastern PA Workforce Investment Board.
Selling Yourself: Resumes that Stand Out
Job seekers need a competitive edge to get themselves noticed. In this seminar, the nonprofit Campus Philly teaches you how to showcase your skills and experience through your resume and cover letter to break through the clutter. Presented by Campus Philly.
Life Science Careers
Despite the challenging economic times, there are companies from key industries in the Delaware Valley Region that are still in need of skilled workers. Did you know that medical scientists, biological technicians, computer-software engineers and industrial engineers will be the jobs most in demand by the Greater Philadelphia region’s life sciences industry over the next five years? Just having science skills isn’t enough. Companies are looking for workers who also have business acumen and technology skills. This session will include representatives from those companies who will share the skills, competencies, and credentials necessary to secure employment. Presented by Delaware Valley Innovation Network.
