CEO Council for Growth

The CEO Council is a devoted group of business, higher education, and civic leaders who commit their time and efforts to enhancing economic growth and prosperity in the 11-county region across northern Delaware, southern New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania. What makes the CEO Council unique? The diverse leadership and the ability of its members to accelerate this economic growth and enhance the competitiveness of the Greater Philadelphia region…

The tri-state regional group leverages direct engagement of private sector and higher education research institution leadership to:

  • Conduct privately funded, actionable analysis to advance large scale regional projects;
  • Advocate for a multifaceted agenda focused on the federal role in innovation, regional mobility and talent;
  • Provide strategic counsel to Select Greater Philadelphia; and
  • Support key initiatives of CEO Council members

For almost a decade, the CEO Council has influenced regional and national policy through advocacy for the improvement of the region’s transportation infrastructure, availability of a top notch workforce, expansion of investment capital to support business growth and the growth of a more vibrant culture of entrepreneurship.

During the 2013 Fiscal Year the CEO Council will continue its robust advocacy through its members and engaged stakeholders with a focus on the following priorities:

INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Create and execute a focused federal policy agenda in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship which can include the following targets:
    • Support for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Small Business Growth and Job Creation
    • Maintain and Expand Federal Support of Research and Development (Basic and Translational)
    • Pursue federal funding to establish one or more regional “centers of excellence” that facilitate the creation of larger-scale, multi-institutional public-private partnerships between academia and industry
    • Attract, Retain and Support Top-Level Talent
REGIONAL MOBILITY
Northeast Corridor
  • Support the improvement of Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and the Capacity Enhancement Program (CEP) and work with PHL, local, and federal officials to move this important regional project forward
  • Execute a federal advocacy agenda implemented through collaboration between regional business/stakeholder groups to secure sustained or increased funding for Amtrak's Northeast Corridor and intercity passenger rail with a focus on reducing trip times, enhancing on time performance, and increasing capacity
  • Commitment to accelerated improvements to increase capacity of air traffic systems and airspace along Interstate 95 Corridor
  • Support use of Public Private Partnerships as a financing mechanism for infrastructure improvements at the local, state, and federal levels

TALENT
IMPACT
  • Advocate for the preservation of core Pell Grant funding to support access to Higher Education
  • Convene partners to implement a shared regional talent strategy, and action plan
  • Coordinate Greater Philadelphia's participation in Talent Dividend Prize
  • Advocate for Federal talent investments to be made that align with business demand
  • Foster dialogue and facilitate collaboration between Higher Education and Business leaders
