Green Advantage

Posted to Event by Mr. John Judge of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Eastern Pa. Chapter at 11:33 AM

The Green Building Education Commercial Training Program presents sustainable construction in a holistic way – exposing contractors, trades-people, engineers, and architects to a progressive system that builds upon their knowledge base of construction. Information is presented in a logical order as one would build a building – and it is complementary to the LEED® system. Trainees receive an essential “understanding” and a level of familiarity with LEED®, its credit intents, requirements, costs and benefits by presenting it as an integral part of the construction process. It is important to note that LEED® was initially developed for the design community and therefore does not intuitively connect with the construction audience. Taking the Exam is a separate process and must be scheduled and paid directly at www.greenadvantage.org.

Money Matters! Pay if Paid vs Pay When Paid

Posted to Event by Mr. John Judge of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Eastern Pa. Chapter at 11:23 AM

It is critical for contractors and subcontractors to have a basic, working understanding of “pay-if-paid” and “pay-when-paid” provisions. The purpose of this seminar is to provide contractors and subcontractors with basic training on identifying whether a payment provision in a subcontract is a “pay-if-paid” or “pay-when-paid” provision and an understanding of the legal risks associated with each type of provision. Only with such an understanding can contractors and subcontractors identify payment risks during the subcontract negotiation phase and take steps to minimize and address such risks before executing a subcontract.

The seminar will examine real cases and explain how and why courts have determined whether specific provisions are “pay-if-paid” or “pay-when-paid” provisions. The seminar will also discuss strategies for negotiating such provisions and the different impact such provisions have on a subcontractor’s right to stop work for nonpayment.

Making Sense of the Current Economic Crisis

Posted to Event by Ms. Tammy Zelahy of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Eastern Pa. Chapter at 11:44 AM

Congress passed a "bailout", but who will it help? Why did the market crash 800 points days after the bailout was passed? How did we get into this mess in the first place? Who is at fault? What's at the core of our current problems? The Fed probably kept interest rates too low too long, but is more cheap credit the answer to the problems created by cheap credit? Will this save us from recession or cause one, and what are the implications of this huge intrusion of government into the private sector?
