IBC head to receive MS Society’s highest honor

Joseph A. Frick, the President and CEO of Independence Blue Cross, has been named the

2010 Hope Award recipient for philanthropic service and community leadership by the

National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Frick will receive the Hope Award at the MS Dinner of Champions at the Crystal Tea

Room in Philadelphia on October 22. Co-Chairs of the event, expected to draw

Frick has led Independence Blue Cross as president and chief executive officer since January 2005. Prior to that role, Mr. Frick served as Independence Blue Cross’s senior vice president – human resources and administration.

In October 2008, Mr. Frick completed a two-year term as chairperson of the Greater

Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves on the boards of the Chamber and

of its CEO Council for Growth. He is a member of the boards of La Salle University and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Recently, Frick became a member of the Executive Committee of the Committee of Seventy.

Past Hope Award recipients include David L. Cohen, Nicholas DeBenedictis, the late G.

Fred DiBona Jr., Rosemarie Greco, Bob Hall, Larry Kane, Eric Lindros, Warren V. “Pete”

In addition to being honored at the MS Dinner of Champions, Frick also plans to take part in the Bike MS: City to Shore Ride on Sept. 25 and will walk 30 miles on Oct. 23 & 24 as part of Challenge Walk MS.

The funds raised by these events are essential to the 400,000 Americans living with multiple sclerosis, a disease of the central nervous system with no known cause or cure. In addition to supporting MS research at centers such as the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Jefferson University Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Society provides a wide range of services that local people living with MS depend on.
