Calling All Moms

Moms have a special bond that should be celebrated. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) new Moms In Training (MIT), a modified cersion of the successful Team In Training campaign, recuits moms who are passionate anout fighting cancer and saving lives. MIT will get you ready to run or walk a 8K (5 miles) to help raise money to fight cancer.

MIT is currently recruiting moms for the Rothman Institute 8K on Saturday, November 16th in Philadelphia. Training begins on Saturday, September 21st at 9:00 a.m. at the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

2013 Advocacy Training Program
Saving Lives Not Someday, But Today

Conshohocken, PA (April 10, 2013) – Today, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s® (LLS) Office of Public Policy (OPP) is the voice for all blood cancer patients, driving legislative polices to accelerate the development and approval of new treatments to ensure access to quality care. OPP works with volunteer advocates across the United States to rally grassroots efforts to promote issues that impact cancer research and to ensure patients have access to quality affordable health care.

The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter along with the Office of Public Policy will be hosting an educational program about the role that grassroots advocates play in finding a cure for blood cancers on Tuesday, May 21st at the Wistar Institute (3601 Spruce Street) in Philadelphia from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s® 2013 Advocacy Training Program will feature federal and state legislators, research scientists, and LLS’s Office of Public Policy staff. The program includes the following renowned speakers:

Get Ready to Out Pedal Cancer

Teams are still being form for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s® (LLS) inaugural Race To Any Place presented by Brandywine Realty Trust on Saturday, February 23rd. The event is taking place at the Cira Centre (2929 Arch Street) in Center City Philadelphia. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with the race starting promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Race To Any Place is a spinning bike race featuring teams and individuals riding stationary bikes for periods of 15 minutes over a course of six hours. Teams compete with one another for the most mileage in six hours and the most funds raised. Fundraising can be accomplished through online donations or through sponsorships from local companies. Prizes are offered for teams recording the highest mileage and for the highest fundraising.

2nd Annual Cancer is Ugly! Sweater Party

Bust out your ugliest holiday sweater for the 2nd Annual Cancer is Ugly! Sweater Party on Thursday, December 20th at Yards Brewery in Philadelphia (901 North Delaware Avenue) from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The evening includes open bar, hors d’oeuvres, live music, and raffle prizes. Celebrity guest judges include Jay McCarroll, the fashion designer known for winning season one of Project Runway and HughE Dillon, founder and editor of PhillyChitChat, a social diary about the people, places, trends, news, art, and events in Philadelphia. Proceeds will be donated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Eastern Pennsylvania. Tickets are $40 per person.

Team In Training Named Best Charity Training Program!

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training (TNT), the world’s largest and most successful charity endurance sports training program, has been voted Best Charity Training Program in the 2011 Best of Competitor magazine poll.

TNT prepares participants to complete a marathon, half marathon, triathlon, or a 100-mile century bikes ride. Participants receive four to five months of training with certified coaches, great choices on travel destinations and all travel arrangements, clinics on nutrition, hydration, injury prevention and the camaraderie of a TEAM. In return, participants raise funds to advance blood cancer research and provide services for patients and their families.

Teams are now forming for the summer season, which includes St. Luke’s Half Marathon, Lake Tahoe Century Bike Ride, Rock “n” Roll Marathon and Half Marathon in San Diego, Lake Placid Marathon and Half, and Philadelphia Triathlon.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman of the Year campaign is a fundraising competition in communities across the U.S. in which participants compete for the title of Man or Woman of the Year. Funds are raised for blood cancer research in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. The titles are awarded to the man and woman in each community who raise the most funds during the ten-week campaign; the top local fundraisers in the country also win the national titles.

The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma is accepting 2012 Man & Woman of the Year candidate nominations for the Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley regions. It’s time, once again, to reflect on your goals for the New Year. If getting fit and healthy is on your list for 2012, then consider joining The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training program.

There is no better time to get involved. Team In Training, the world’s largest and most successful endurance sports charity training program, provides 4 to 5 months of certified coaching, a supportive group of teammates and nutritional advice to help you complete a marathon, 1/2 marathon, triathlon, or cycling event. TNT arranges airfare and hotel accommodations to the event of your choice. In exchange, participants raise funds to support cancer research and patient services.

Students Helping to Beat Blood Cancer!

More children than ever before are surviving leukemia, but it is still the leading cause of cancer related deaths among children and young adults. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School & Youth Programs – Pennies for Patients and Olivia Garden’s Pasta for Pennies – provide a meaningful way for children to take on a disease that impacts their peers.

During the 2010-2011 school year, students from 680 schools in Eastern Pennsylvania collected approximately $700,000 in spare change to support cancer research and patient services.

The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter is currently recruiting schools for the 2011-12

Bust out your ugliest holiday sweater for the 1st Annual Cancer is Ugly! Sweater Party on Saturday, December 17th at City Tap House in University City (3925 Walnut Street). Proceeds from the evening will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Eastern Pennsylvania.

The evening includes open bar, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music, and raffle prizes including Baskets of Holiday Cheer. The party starts at 7:00 p.m. and runs until 10:00 p.m. The winner of the ugliest sweater wins City Tap House’s employee discount for one year. Jay McCarroll, Project Runway Season 1 Winner, will be one of the guest judges!
