Four New Companies Join Science Center Port Business Incubator

The University City Science Center started off the new year by welcoming four new companies into its Port Business Incubator in Philadelphia, PA. Three of the four companies, Immunocore, Kwelia and MedCity Media have taken desk space in the Bullpen, the Port’s newest co-working space, which opened in November 2011. Pharmaceutical Press is occupying office space in the Port’s Hubert J. P. Schoemaker Lab at 3624 Market Street.

New Co-Working Space Opens at Science Center Port Business Incubator

The Bullpen isn’t just for relief pitchers anymore. The University City Science Center’s Port Business Incubator has opened a new co-working office space for emerging startup companies called the Bullpen. The new space, which offers entrepreneurs a desk, phone and high speed Wi-Fi, is located on the Science Center campus at 3711 Market Street in Philadelphia. Belgium-based Biologistics Consulting is the first company to call the Bullpen home.

Office Hours Program Offers Expert Advice to Entrepreneurs

What do entrepreneurs have in common regardless of industry sector? They can all benefit from interacting with seasoned professionals who specialize in assisting start-up companies to meet their growth potential. However, identifying and connecting with the appropriate “expert” can often be a daunting task. To help entrepreneurs navigate the world of business and professional services, the University City Science Center’s new Quorum Office Hours program brings an advisor to Quorum each month to meet one-on-one with entrepreneurs, answer their questions and offer advice.

Dr. J. Larry Jameson Joins University City Science Center Board of Directors

J. Larry Jameson, M.D., Ph.D. has been elected to the Board of Directors of the University City Science Center. Jameson is the executive vice president of the University of Pennsylvania for the Health System and dean of Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine, where he is responsible for the oversight and strategic management of all of Penn Medicine’s academic programs, research activities and clinical services.

NFTE Philadelphia Joins Quorum Strategic Partner alliance: Increases Opportunities for Young Entrepreneurs

University City Science Center Names New Board Chairman

Craig R. Carnaroli of the University of Pennsylvania has been elected Chairman of the University City Science Center’s Board of Directors. Carnaroli succeeds Richard P. Jaffe, Esq. of Duane Morris LLP, who stepped down after chairing the Board since 2002.

DreamIT Ventures Kicks Off the 2010 Program on May 7th

PHILADELPHIA (May 6, 2010) – Philadelphia’s entrepreneurial culture will receive an infusion when DreamIt Ventures moves 15 emerging companies into the University City Science Center for the summer. More than 45 young entrepreneurs will spend three months working with a support team of mentors, accountants and lawyers as they work to bring their ideas to the marketplace.

Science Center Appoints Vice President and General Counsel

Saul Behar has joined the University City Science Center as Vice President and General Counsel. Behar has worked for the Science Center as a consultant since January 2009. He reports directly to Stephen S. Tang, Ph.D., the Science Center’s President and CEO. In addition to his role as General Counsel, Behar also has responsibility for government relations at the federal, state and city levels.

Philadelphia’s First “Gym” for Innovators Opens at the University City Science Center

Philadelphia, PA - (January 11, 2010) –Access to 3D printers has generally been limited to people with deep pockets, like Jay Leno who uses his $15,000 3D printer to manufacture replacement parts for his antique auto collection. That’s changing later this month when Philadelphia’s first “gym” for innovators opens at the University City Science Center. NextFab Studio, a membership-based technology workshop and prototyping center, is unveiling its brand-new facility to the public with an open-house event, Friday, January 22nd, 2010, beginning at 5:00 pm.

Temple Univ. Provost Lisa Staiano-Coico Joins Science Center Board
