SCA Partners with City of Philadelphia to Introduce new Composting/Recycling Program for Outdoor Events

Posted to Announcement by Ms. Diane Engler of SCA Americas Inc. at 7:06 PM

SCA, a global hygiene and forest products company with Americas headquarters in Philadelphia, announced a partnership with the City of Philadelphia to launch a new waste removal program including composting that will divert an estimated 2.5 million pounds of waste a year from landfills. SCA invested nearly $175,000 to purchase, design and develop new waste bin stations and donated them to the city for use at outdoor events. SCA collaborated with the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and the Department of Streets to ensure the bin stations are easy for people to sort waste by trash, compost and recycling. The new waste bin stations will be introduced at the upcoming Philadelphia Marathon, November 17-18.

“Partnering with SCA to enhance our recycling capabilities, reduce landfill waste and bring first-ever composting to our outdoor events makes perfect sense,” said Mayor Michael A. Nutter.

Posted to Announcement by Ms. Diane Engler of SCA Americas Inc. at 10:08 AM

Over 100 different businesses and organizations exhibited at the sold-out Greenfest Philly festival to promote sustainability and highlight their commitment to the environment. The festival, organized by Clean Air Council, offered something for everyone - a kid’s corner with eco-friendly crafts and music, local organic food and drinks, live music, electric vehicles, innovative green businesses and products, and more.

For the second year, SCA sponsored the Green Innovators Program, which recognizes businesses and organizations with ideas and products that are on the forefront of sustainability in Philadelphia. Seven businesses and organizations were featured at Greenfest as nominees for the award. Greenfest attendees and a judging panel - consisting from representatives from Clean Air Council, SCA, and Flying Kite Media - selected Bright Ideas! 2012 Greenfest Green Innovator. Bright Ideas! - a project of the Sustainability Workshop, was the winner by a narrow margin.
