Chamber Opposes Lifting Campaign Finance Cap

As a staunch supporter of campaign finance limits, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce is disappointed that Philadelphia City Council is considering legislation to suspend newly enacted campaign contribution limits. We urge City Council to reject this proposal.

The Chamber supports the law that limited mayoral candidates in the upcoming May 15 primary to accepting political action committee contributions up to $20,000 and individual contributions up to $5,000 because it makes good-government sense. These limits encourage greater participation from citizens and greater transparency.

The Chamber supports campaign finance limits because even the perception of  a “pay-to-play” atmosphere deters businesses from residing in Philadelphia or engaging in business in Philadelphia.

Chamber Reacts to Gov. Rendell’s “Prescription for Pennsylvania”

The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce commends Governor Rendell for tackling the critical but complicated challenge of making healthcare coverage more affordable and accessible.

A top Chamber priority has always been to work to stabilize healthcare costs so that quality medical care will remain affordable and available to Pennsylvania employers and their workers.

Sixty percent of the Chamber’s approximately 5,000 members are small employers with fewer than 50 employees. With healthcare costs up 75% in the last six years, it’s no wonder that for many small businesses, including some Chamber members, health care coverage is unaffordable.

Any improvement in reducing healthcare costs for employers will make Greater Philadelphia competitive with other regions across the country and the world in attracting new businesses.
