Mayor Street’s Last Formal Address to the Regional Business Community

The Valentine’s Day snowstorm didn’t stop the business community from meeting with Philadelphia Mayor John F. Street at the 24th Annual Mayoral Luncheon, presented by the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the Comcast Family of Companies.

The event, which featured a retrospective tribute video by Comcast of Mayor Street’s years in office, ended with the Mayor giving a candid speech on his relationship with Philadelphia business during his two terms.  It was held at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center Hotel.

Additionally, representatives from The Next Mayor, an initiative of WHYY, the Philadelphia Daily News and the Committee of Seventy that aims to educate the public and contribute to the knowledge of voters, were on hand to discuss the important issues in the upcoming mayoral race.

Two former Philadelphia high school students, Erica Halpern and Jeanie Tso, were honored for their deep commitment to service in their community with the Gus Amsterdam Leadership Award, which included a $5,000 scholarship towards higher education.  They both attend the University of Pennsylvania.

The event was co-sponsored by Beneficial Savings Bank, Berry & Homer, Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, PECO, An Exelon Company, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and philly.com, University of Pennsylvania, University of Pennsylvania Healthcare System and WolfBlock.
