Business Leaders Discuss Region’s Competitiveness

In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey and the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce recently held the third annual State of the Region event in Drexel Hill. About 600 business leaders explored workforce development issues and to the power of technology transfer in stimulating economic growth.

Keynote speaker Douglas Conant, President & CEO, Campbell Soup Company, provided an overview of Campbell’s renewed strategy, which includes its recently announced campus expansion in Camden.

Also, Select Greater Philadelphia released its second Regional Report, a comprehensive analysis of how Greater Philadelphia's 11-county region compares to competitor regions on a number of key indicators and metrics. The report can be accessed online at: http://www.selectgreaterphiladelphia.com/regional_report.cfm.

Panelists at State of the Region 2007 were Richard E. Caruso, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board, Integra LifeSciences Corporation; Katherine Chou, Executive Director, Office of Technology Transfer, Thomas Jefferson University; Christopher A. Coons, New Castle County Executive; and P. Sherrill Neff, Managing Partner, Quaker BioVentures.  The event was moderated by Tara L. Weiner, Managing Partner, Greater Philadelphia, Deloitte.

State of the Region is the culminating event of the Chamber’s County Breakfast Series, held this year throughout Greater Philadelphia and focused on the economic impact of the region’s institutions of higher education.
