Giving back to the community – Sometimes strategic. Always fulfilling.
Submitted by: William J. Mignucci, Jr., President, Di Bruno Brothers, Inc.
Di Bruno Bros. has been part of the fabric of Philadelphia for over 68 years and giving back to the community has always been an integral part of our company’s mission. While we have never defined our charitable donation strategy in great detail, our philosophy has always been built around supporting the “3 C’s”: community, culture and most importantly children. We try to prioritize our contributions to our immediate neighborhoods and the organizations we have supported in the past such as Alex’s Lemonade Stand, The Rock School for Dance Education, Achievability, Eagles Wives Fight for Lives, and Gift of Life Organ Donor Program to name a few. But beyond these important charities, we keep our minds open to help those in need. Our choices are not just determined by management or ownership. If you are an employee of DiBruno Brothers and there is a cause that you support, we encourage you to bring those opportunities to us. We want to support those charities our employees are interested in. It is a simple policy: by being willing to share in the commitment of our employees’ charitable causes, we have strengthened the commitment to our business. It is a “Win-Win,” and in business a “Win-Win” is not always easy to come by.
In some ways our broad, open-ended approach allows us to help where others cannot. There have been times when an organization needs last minute assistance in providing food, auctioning items or supplying volunteers to help out at an event. And we have the ability to jump right in and help. Recently, for example, when the Ronald McDonald House needed someone to help out with their annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, we recruited our employees to help. When “The Bald Ball” needed a venue to raise money to help children with cancer, we offered DiBruno Brothers as the event site. And when our neighbors at the Prince Theatre were in need of food for the premiere of a film that had no entertainment budget, we provided hors d’oeuvres. When it comes to supporting the community through charitable donations, Di Bruno Brothers, supports the community. While our contributions are not always strategic, they are always fulfilling.
