Contribute Your Time to the Arts. Get A Great Return On Your Investment.

Have you heard the amazing story about the banker who walked into the offices of a national literary magazine headquartered in our region and left behind a three-year strategic plan? Or the one about the CPA who is helping a new nonprofit generate resources to provide art supplies for Philadelphia public schools?

How about the telecom expert whose recommendations to a major historical preservation group not only paid for their new telephone system, but also substantially lowered the organization’s monthly charges? Then there is the technology guru who’s building the first ever website for a well-established museum in the suburbs?

You too could have a wonderful story like these to tell about your experiences as a volunteer consultant with one of our region’s dynamic arts and cultural organizations.

As a first step apply to participate in the June 2008 Leadership Training for the Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA) and Technology Connectors programs of the Arts and Business Council, a Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce affiliate. The combined training for new volunteers with both programs will be held at the Chamber offices from 4:00pm to 7:30pm on two Wednesday evenings — June 4 and 11.

Not sure which program is right for you? Consider becoming a BVA volunteer if you have expertise in organizational development, finance, human resources, business planning, strategic planning or marketing and public relations.

If you are a technology professional with experience ranging from hands-on project support like website design, database construction, and network installation to strategic technology assessments and planning, then the Technology Connectors would best align with your skills.

Because GPCC members like you typically have business acumen or technology experience, we especially encourage you to become a volunteer management or technology consultant. There is a one-time fee of $250, which includes the Leadership Training and all the benefits of becoming a business or technology volunteer:

  • Individualized placement on projects tailored to your interests and skills
  • Council staff support throughout each project
  • Invitations to special volunteers-only events
  • Participation in forums/networking events to help you become an arts-savvy member of the community.

Click here to learn more about becoming a BVA volunteer or contact Eileen Cunniffe, Director of BVA, at 215-790-3621 or ecunniffe@artsandbusinessphila.org.

Click here about becoming a Technology Connectors volunteer or contact Craig Stover, Director of Technology Programs and Services, at 215-790-3673 or cstover@artsandbusinessphila.org.

We promise to deliver a great return on the investment of your business acumen or technology experience. And you have some fun too!

P.S. Want to see for yourself what the Council’s outstanding BVA and Technology Connectors volunteers have recently accomplished? Register for Arts & Business Council Awards 2008.

The Arts & Business Council gratefully acknowledges Ernst & Young LLP for its sponsorship of Business Volunteers for the Arts and Comcast and CAI for their sponsorship and support of the Technology Connectors.
