Women Take Charge: Women in Politics
Camille Cates Barnett, Ph.D., Managing Director, City of Philadelphia, and a distinguished panel of politically active businesswomen will discuss their accomplishments, the challenges they face, and their roles as effective agents of change at Women Take Charge on Tuesday, June 24. Presented in partnership with the Philadelphia Business Journal, the event will be held from 8:00-10:30 a.m. at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel.
More and more women are being elected and appointed to political positions on the local, state and national levels. They are impacting the social and political climate of our country by bringing new issues to the public agenda and opening up government to fresh ideas and different approaches.
Join us as Women Take Charge explores how businesswomen exercise political influence. Learn how women’s unique experiences equip them with tools to become successful leaders and the effect their perspective has on the political landscape.
Panelists are scheduled to be Rachel Cohen, Senior Director Public Policy & External Affairs, Comcast; Rose Corrigan, Ph.D., Assistant Professor & Director of Women’s Studies Program, Drexel University; Lisa Crutchfield, Senior Vice President, Regulatory & External Affairs, PECO; Gianna Jackson, Executive Director, CIGNA Foundation; and Sue Jacobson, Executive Vice President, Public Affairs, Tierney Communications.
Dr. Barnett is widely regarded as one of America’s most talented city managers and a leading national authority on effective government. As a member of Mayor Michael Nutter’s cabinet, Dr. Barnett directly supervises the city’s major operating departments while also studying the challenges facing government in the 21st Century.
A portion of your registration fees will be donated to The Career Wardrobe- the nation’s largest organization that provides professional clothing, career skills education and networking opportunities to women transitioning into the workforce. Since 1995, over 50,000 women in the Philadelphia area have benefited from the organization’s services. Attendees are asked to bring a gently used professional accessory or new beauty product to donate to The Career Wardrobe. Needed items include: purses, portfolios, scarves, jewelry or unused cosmetics.
