Several Philadelphia City Council Proposals Would Affect City Businesses
As City Council returned to session last month, we continued to monitor the progress of several bills introduced last spring.
Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez introduced a bill that would require all businesses that pay the business privilege tax to disclose more information, including their net income and all taxes paid.
Councilman Bill Greenlee proposed legislation requires employers to grant unpaid leave to victims of domestic or sexual violence. We testified at a public hearing last spring to express our reservations and are continuing discussions with the sponsor.
Councilman Darrell Clarke has sponsored a bill that would require all employers in the city to offer paid sick leave to workers. The measure would require larger businesses in the city to offer up to nine days of paid sick leave and smaller businesses would have to offer up to five days. With the African American and Hispanic Chambers, we met with the bill sponsor to discuss its implications on smaller businesses. No hearing has been scheduled at this time.
