A high-tech design and contract manufacturer for 32 years, The E F Precision Group (EFPG) started as a small, computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine shop in a two-car garage. The business has grown into a full-service, turnkey solutions company occupying 65,000 sq. ft., employing 76 people and generating $19 million in revenue last year.
At a critical juncture in the mid-1990s, when the company was laden with outdated manual equipment, significant capital investments were implemented. New CNC machines and processing controls resulted in quick dividends, reduced lead-times, higher inventory turnovers and dramatic quality improvements. In the past few years, EFPG grew by 57%, with additional growth expectations of 25% into 2010.
Their reputation is built on making products for other companies from the ground up, specializing in unusual or difficult small quantities or large production runs. From simple to complex designs, they adapt to customers’ specifications with concept-through-completion engineering solutions and integration of robotics in machining and assembly services.
EFPG’s core customer base lies in the aerospace, defense, medical, pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries, but they can take any customer’s idea and build what they need—prototypes through production, using advanced equipment and technological methods.
The products they build are as varied as their clients, often involving quality of life improvements: a slip-ring inside a F16 fighter jet to create a heads-up display for pilots, a handheld kidney dialysis device, a critical component in high-tech racing bicycles, a dental chair that allows an MRI to swing around a patient’s head, and state-of-the-art mail sort systems for the U.S. Post Office.
Establishing themselves as a growth company over the last five years through further expansion of space and equipment, they created a structured approach to training and providing new, good-paying manufacturing jobs in the region. They pride themselves on an outstanding workplace underscored by a 1% turnover rate, and an “Attitude is Everything” approach that embodies the organization’s character.
