Executive Summary: Help Us Support Free Enterprise and a Robust Philadelphia Business Sector
As the city's 2011 budget is being negotiated, the Chamber has expressed its concern about economic prosperity in Philadelphia and asserts that this is not the time for City Council to consider raising business taxes.
In what is being called the Great Recession, how to create private-sector jobs should be at the center of the discussion as Mayor Nutter and City Council work together to solve a $150 million budget deficit. Also, we believe cutting city spending should be part of the solution.
The Chamber believes that raising business taxes would be destructive and detrimental to Philadelphia's economic recovery and would cost the city private-sector jobs. We are urging our members to contact their City Council representatives to advocate for focusing on ways to help businesses create jobs.
